Talk:Template Infobox great structure/doc

Usage

The infobox may be added by pasting the template as shown below into an article and then filling in the desired fields. Any parameters left blank or omitted will not be displayed.

Parameters

Do not use all these parameters for any one person. The list is long to cover a wide range of people. Only use those parameters that convey essential or notable information about the subject. Any parameters left blank or omitted will not be displayed. If a data field has more than one parameter name which can be used, the preferred name is listed first in bold print.

Parameter Explanation
name Common name of person (defaults to article name if left blank; provide birth_name (below) if different from name).
image Image name: abc.jpg, xpz.png, 123.gif, etc. If an image is desired but not available, one may add "yes" to the "needs-photo" section of the Template:WPBiography on the talkpage. Do not add Image:Replace this image male.svg, Image:Replace this image female.svg or other placeholder images; a discussion for the use such placeholders resulted in no consensus for the mandatory removal of the images on existing pages, however it is suggested that they not be added to new articles.
honorific_prefix To appear on the line above the person's name
honorific_suffix To appear on the line below the person's name
image_size

Microformat

The HTML markup produced by this template includes an hCard microformat, which makes the person's details parsable by computers, either acting automatically to catalogue articles across Wikipedia or via a browser tool operated by a reader, to (for example) add the subject to an address book or database. For more information about the use of microformats on Wikipedia, please see the microformat project.

Sub-templates

Date-of-birth ("bday") information will only be included in the microformat if {{birth date}}, or {{birth date and age}} are used in the infobox. (Do not use these if the date is before 1583).

To include a URL, use {{URL}}.

Please do not remove instances of these sub-templates.
