Location of Teyateyaneng in Lesotho

Teyateyaneng is a town located in the district of Berea in Lesotho. Usually abbreviated to T.Y., Teya-Teyaneng means 'place of quick sands'.[1] Teyateyaneng is also the camptown for the district of Berea. In 2005 it had a population of 75,115.

Geography

Teyateyaneng is located about 40 kilometers north of the national capital of Maseru on the Main North One, a road that runs parallel to the South African border leading to the north. The city is situated on a high plateau at about 1600 meters altitude.

History

Teyateyaneng was founded in 1886 as the capital of Berea by then Chief Masupha. The centennial in 1986 was celebrated with sports tournaments and T-shirts.

Teyateyaneng has several retail businesses and carpet-producing factories.

Sports

Football: The Lioli FC is a football club from Teyateyaneng. In 1985 the team won the national championship for the first time then again in 2009, it is now the Lesotho groud puller. In 2007 it won Imperial Top 8 cup.Lioli FC is now Lesotho soccer champs with the likes of Congo,Manqane, ntate Masualle not foggeting dribbling wizard shabba. Cricket: LEOKAOKE LEBONA is the first and the only spinner, he was in the first cricket team to win internationally.The best cricket is found there in T.Y. this is where our best spinner LEOKAOKE LEBONA IS FROM, PACE BOWLERS IAN OSLER(BOBO),THABISO MOHAPI(BOTS'O)Who has been playing for the National Team Since he was 15 under the Captain leadership of Niels Wall who currently plays Cricket on the Top League in his home Country Denmark), BATSMEN THABANG MAFEREKA, NTATE BANYE. NUL vampires are recently crowned lestho cricket league champions. they hammered bails cricket by 129 runs. vamps 192/4 & bails 62 all out. lebona was man of the match with 75 runs and 4 wickets for 14 runs. Lemphane( Captain) managed to score 98 close to his ton. LP are the runner-ups. Other Sports are found in schools which is where most of the Town Stars are sharpened.

Points of interest

There is a hospital and high schools in Teyateyaneng. Furthermore, around the city there are several rock caves with cave paintings of the San tribe. The images are of hunters and prey deer.
